Ukrainian DTEK Energo company started importing coal from Kazakhstan, Trend reports citing the company.

The company said that in addition to extracting coal themselves (almost 10 million tons over seven months of 2021), DTEK Energo is also actively looking for opportunities for additional supply of imported coal to country’s TPPs.

“Currently we are negotiating with suppliers from Poland, Kazakhstan, as well as the US. Despite the growing demand in the world market, we are starting to import it. The first batch from Kazakhstan is on its way. Next week we expect coal supplies from Poland,” the CEO of the company Ildar Salieiev said.

DTEK Energo's priority, being a reliable and responsible company, is to ensure energy security and stability of the heating season in Ukraine, even despite the crisis conditions on the electricity market.

The volume of Kazakhstan’s coal consumption is expected to decrease from 10 to 7.3 million tons this winter.

The main decrease is expected due to the active work on supplying gas to the country’s regions: coal consumption will decrease to 4.8 million tons compared to last winter's figures were 7.2 million tons.

Some 3.4 million tons of coal have already been shipped for public utilities and the population of the regions in 1H2021. Energy producing enterprises received 31.3 million tons, and 2.9 million tons for the needs of industrial enterprises. 14.5 million tons were exported.
