By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

In the long run, Serbia is planning to establish strategic natural gas reserves, build more interconnections with neighboring countries, and make joint plans with neighboring countries in case of supply crisis, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and the Minister of Mining and Energy, prof. Dr. Zorana Mihajlovic told Trend.

She noted that with the construction and commissioning of the Balkan Stream gas pipeline, Serbia was given the opportunity to obtain natural gas from another direction, which further increased its energy security.

“We currently have one gas storage facility that was almost completely filled in early October. We also have ready plans to act in case of unwanted situations and aggravation of the crisis. The important of these capacities is best shown by the recent situation with the interruption of the supply of natural gas from the direction of Bulgaria, which occurred due to technical reasons. Reserves from the warehouse, as well as other existing supply routes through Hungary, enabled us to overcome this situation almost without restrictions or switching to alternative fuels such as fuel oil. However, we still see the signing of a multi-year supply agreement with Gasprom as the main way to medium-term security of supply,” added Mihajlovic.
