Kazakhstan's energy system to expand – ministry

Kazakhstan's energy system will increase by another 1150 MW of electricity in the next 10 days, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.

According to the ministry, Pavlodar region is a significant region in the energy system of Kazakhstan, which occupies more than 40 percent of the share of electricity generation.

It is reported that the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Magzum Mirzagaliyev during a visit to the power plants of Pavlodar region, held a meeting at which issues were discussed on the implementation of repair campaigns for the stations, the development of the Energy Balance of Kazakhstan until 2035 and on the accession of cities and regions of Western Kazakhstan to the Unified Energy System of the country.

In addition, the minister got acquainted with the implementation of projects for the restoration of the first power unit at the Ekibastuz GRES-1 and the construction of the third power unit at the Ekibastuz GRES-2 power station and the implementation of repair campaigns at the stations of the Pavlodar region.

Preparatory work is being completed to bring into the grid after the repairs of the power unit at the Ekibastuz GRES-1, as well as the turbine unit and the boiler unit at the Aksu GRES. The total capacity to be commissioned into the National Electric Grid will be 650 MW. It is also expected to complete the repair of the power unit at the Ekibastuz GRES-2, which will add another 500 MW to the country's energy system.

The minister instructed to complete this work within 10 days and launch the power units. Thus, the country's energy system will increase by another 1150 MW of electricity.

Following the meeting, the minister gave a number of instructions:

- to take all necessary measures for the timely commissioning of the equipment under repair. At the same time, to prevent a decrease in the quality of repairs;

- to eliminate the risk of unscheduled outages of generating equipment in 2022, start working on the issue with the System Operator on planning the implementation of the summer repair campaign.

In addition, the system operator (KEGOC JSC), together with the developers of the forecast balance, was instructed to submit to the Ministry of Energy no later than November 15 the final version of the Energy balance of Kazakhstan until 2035.
