Azerbaijan's power plants increase electricity generation in 2021

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 15

Azerbaijan's power plants generated over 27.855 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity in 2021, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan told Trend.

According to the ministry, electricity generation increased by 7.9 percent or 2.044 billion kWh on an annualized basis.

According to the ministry, Azerbaijan's thermal power plants produced over 26.238 billion kWh of electricity in 2021 (an increase of 7.54 percent or 1.84 billion kWh over the year), hydroelectric power plants generated over 1.27 billion kWh of electricity (an increase of 19.45 percent, or 208 million kWh).

During the reporting period, wind farms in Azerbaijan produced 91.5 million kWh of electricity, which is 4.4 million kWh or 4.58 percent less than in 2020.

Solar power plants produced 55.2 million kWh of electricity, an increase of 17.44 percent or 8.2 million kWh compared to 2020.

Power production by other sources totaled 193.2 million kWh in 2021.

Electricity consumption in Azerbaijan reached 23.435 billion KW/h in 2021.
