Iran to participate in development of oil, gas fields in Tajikistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 2

Iran will participate in the development of oil and gas fields in Tajikistan, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji told reporters, Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.

He made the remark after a meeting with Minister of the Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan Daler Juma.

According to Owji, a joint working group on energy has been established between the two countries, and a number of contracts in energy sector will be signed soon.

“Iran relies on the refining potential of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company. Accordingly, technical working groups will soon be sent to Tajikistan to implement agreements in the energy, oil, gas and petrochemical sectors,” he said.

Owji also pointed out that discussions were held on the export of Iranian oil products, gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to Tajikistan via railways.

The minister emphasized that work is underway to reach the value of the trade turnover between Iran and Tajikistan over 500 million euro a year.

In addition, the Minister of the Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan Daler Juma said that within his visit, many bilateral issues were discussed, including the export of crude oil from Iran to Tajikistan, and the expansion of economic, social and cultural ties.

According to Juma, during the meeting, discussions were conducted on Iran's experience in the exploration and extraction from oil and gas fields.
