BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 10

By Kamran Gasimov - Trend:

Oil extraction in Azerbaijan amounted to 34.6 million tons in 2021, which is more than 2.2 times (15.4 million tons) compared to 2003 and gas extraction - 43.90 billion cubic meters, which is 8.4 times more than in 2003 (5.20 billion cubic meters), Trend reports citing the report of the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan on activities in 2021.

The implementation of consistent measures to realize new projects for the extraction and export of natural gas continued in 2021. Putting into operation of the Southern Gas Corridor at full capacity has increased the role of Azerbaijan in the energy security of Europe.

A total of 17.7 billion cubic meters of gas were exported through the Southern Gas Corridor to Europe, Turkey and Georgia during the reporting year.

The supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe through the Southern Gas Corridor began on December 31, 2020. Azerbaijan exported its natural gas to the European market through pipelines for the first time in history.

Azerbaijan has diversified its export opportunities with direct access to the European market, which is the world's largest importer of natural gas.

The Trans Adriatic pipeline (TAP) which is the European part of the Southern Gas Corridor, will annually supply eight billion cubic meters of gas to Italy and one billion cubic meters of gas to Greece and Bulgaria.
