BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 24. The National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) drilled and improved 75 offshore and onshore oil and gas wells in Iran over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Managing director of the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) Hamid Reza Golpayegani said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

Golpayegani noted that 56 wells were drilled in the territory of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), 10 wells in the territory of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) and 1 well in the territory of the Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC).

The director also added that 8 wells were drilled at the order of the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC) and National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC),” he pointed out.

“In total, about 76,100 meters of excavations were carried out within 12 months,” he said.

According to Golpayegani, the NIDC has a total of 73 drilling rigs. Currently, 60 rigs are under operation.

"In addition, 20 wells are currently being drilled in Iran’s Khuzestan, Fars, Golestan and Ardabil provinces under the plan of the NIOC. In general, the excavations are nearing completion,” he pointed out.

There are currently 74 oil and 22 gas fields in Iran. So, 37 oil fields are operating in the territory of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), 14 fields – Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC), 5 fields – Arvandan Oil and Gas Company (AOGC), and 18 oil fields – Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC).

In addition, 5 gas fields are operating in the territory of the NISOC, 13 fields – the ICOFC, 1 field – Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), and 3 gas fields – the IOOC.

Iran’s total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 1.2 trillion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 340 billion barrels. Thus, 30 percent of the country's hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 70 percent remain underground.
