BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 31. The launch of the second phase of the Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility in the Razavi Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran) will allow strengthening of gas security in the northeast of the country, Executive Director of Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company Reza Noshadi said, Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.
He made the remark on March 31, 2022, at the event dedicated to this regard.
According to the director, Iran's Gas Development and Engineering Company has implemented various programs to ensure energy security in the northeast of the country and will try to launch the second phase of the Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility as soon as possible.
“Upon completion of work at the second phase, the storage capacity of the Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility will increase from 2.25 billion cubic meters to 4.5 billion cubic meters,” he added.
Noshadi also noted that in total, 21 wells were drilled in Phase 1 of the Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility to pump gas into the facility, while 14 wells – to take gas from there.
“Currently, Phase 1 plays an important role in energy security in the northeast of the country,” the director said.
On March 31, 2022, Iran launched operations on the second phase of the Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility in the Razavi Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran).
These operations are carried out on the basis of a contract signed between the Iranian Gas Development and Engineering Company and the MAPNA Group on December 22, 2021.
According to the contract, the operations will be completed in three years and the second phase will be used for 20 years. The contract is worth $2.2 billion.
As part of the contract, 28 wells will be drilled, a gas collection center will be built, compressors and other necessary equipment will be installed.
