BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 16. Azerbaijani gas flows to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) are expected to reach 10 billion cubic meters in 2022, Trend reports with reference to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

IEA notes that Azerbaijani gas deliveries to the European Union via the TAP rose by close to 4 billion cubic meters year-on-year during the heating season of 2021/2022.

“Natural gas production in Azerbaijan rose by over 28 percent (or 3.4 bcm) y-o-y during the October-February period, allowing gas supplies to the European Union to increase by 3.35 bcm through the TAP. In Azerbaijan gas production rose by 25 percent (or 6.5 bcm) in 2021. The country’s gas exports to Europe rose by 40% (or 4.5 bcm), including via TAP, which shipped over 8 bcm of gas to the European Union. Domestic demand was largely driven by the power sector, with gas burn increasing by over 15 percent y-o-y,” said the agency.

Azerbaijani gas supplies to Europe via the Southern Gas Corridor began on December 31, 2020. The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the European leg of the Corridor, has recently reached the milestone of 10 billion cubic meters, which is the pipeline's full capacity. TAP's may be expanded to transport 20 billion cubic meters of gas per year, a decision that can be made after market tests.

To date, Azerbaijan’s gas exports to Europe via TAP have reached 11 billion cubic meters.
