BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 24. A contract on a gas swap will be signed between Iran and Russia in the near future, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji told reporters, Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.

He made the remark after the meeting with an Aide to Russian President Igor Levitin on August 24, 2022.

According to Owji, discussions on the gas swap with Russia have already been concluded. Iran has enough potential to increase gas swap by all sea, rail and land.

The minister added that during the current year, Iranian and Russian big companies signed several important agreements and contracts worth $40 billion. Currently, Iran’s 7 oil and gas fields are being developed under the mentioned contracts.

“The mentioned oil fields are located in Iran’s Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran). There is currently 10-30 percent physical progress in the development of the fields. In addition, the two countries are discussing the development of 14 more fields of Iran,” he said.

Owji also pointed out that talks were conducted with the Aide to the Russian President on the construction of Iran's Rasht-Astara railway line and the electrification of the Garmsar-Incheh Borun railway line. The funds needed for these railways will be provided by Russian banks.
