BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept.12. Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and Shah Deniz fields in Azerbaijan have produced 199 billion cubic meters and 174 billion cubic meters, respectively since start until September 1, 2022, Trend reports with reference to the energy ministry.

Shah Deniz field exported 121 billion cubic meters over this period.

Reportedly, Azerbaijan produced 30.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas from January through August 2022. ACG accounted for 9 bcm, while Shah Deniz produced 16.4 bcm of this volume. Around 5.2 billion cubic meters was produced by Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR. The country’s gas output rose by 9.7 percent or 2.7 bcm.

Azerbaijan’s gas exports stood at 14.4 billion cubic meters, or 23 percent more year-on-year. Around 7.3 bcm was exported to Europe, while Türkiye and Georgia got 5.4 bcm and 1.7 bcm. Türkiye received 3.7 bcm via the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP).

The supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe through the Southern Gas Corridor began on December 31, 2020. Azerbaijan exported its natural gas to the European market through pipelines for the first time in history.

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) which is the European part of the Southern Gas Corridor, annually supplies eight billion cubic meters of gas to Italy and one billion cubic meters of gas to Greece and Bulgaria.

The European Union has expressed its support to the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor. In July this year, Azerbaijan and the European Commission signed a memorandum of understanding, which among other issues, also envisages doubling the Corridor’s capacity to 20 billion cubic meters per year by 2027.
