Iran negotiates gas export deal with Turkiye

TEHRAN, Iran, September 15. Tehran and Ankara have negotiated over the renewal of the contract for exports of Iran’s gas to Turkiye for 25 years, the secretary of Federation of Iran's energy exports and related industries Hamidreza Salehi told Trend.

Iran currently exports 50 million cubic meter gas per day to Iraq, he said adding that the country previously used to export the same volume of gas to Turkiye, before the contract between the two countries expired.

"Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the renewal of the 25 year gas export deal with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi during his visit to Tehran," he noted.

The official has indicated that similar contract could be signed between Iran and European countries, otherwise Turkiye will import Iran’s gas and sell it to Europe with higher price.

Previously based on the contract between the two countries, Iran used to export 10 billion cubic meters gas to Turkiye in year (equal to about 30 to 60 million cubic meters gas per day), he pointed out.
