Azerbaijan waits for Turkey's terms on gas transit from Shah-Deniz to Greece - Natig Aliyev
Azerbaijan has an agreement with Turkey on gas sale from the Shah-Deniz field. Turkey is due to hand over terms on gas transit to transport Azerbaijani gas to Greece and Italy, Trend reports quoting Natig Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister.
The distance from the Turkish-Georgian border to Greece is 1,000 km. The transportation and sale of Azerbaijani gas in Greece and Italy will be unprofitable, if the transit prices are high, he said. Azerbaijan waits for more acceptable terms on gas transit. Different versions are under consideration at present, he added.
According to Aliyev, Turkey states liberalization of own gas market, while Azerbaijan waits for changes to determine whether it can enter the market and sale gas.
Greece is very interested in acquisition of Azerbaijani gas and its further transportation. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the Greek National gas Company (DEPA) repeatedly held negotiations in this respect.
