Kazakhstan might join BTC soon

Perspectives of Kazakhstan joining Baku-Tbilisi- Ceyhan (BTC) introduced to the agenda of IV meeting of the Azerbaijani- Kazakh inter-governmental commission, government told Trend.

According to the mission protocol, discussed at April 27 meeting of the expert groups, BTC attractiveness for Kazakhstan has been especially emphasized and Kazakh side was advised to modify the Aktau port infrastructure.

2. 267m tons of oil have been reloaded at Kazakh port, Aktau in the first quarter of 2006, this is 139.000 tons less than in the similar period of the last year. The port` s transferring ability is more than 1m tons of oil products annually. It was officially opened in 1999.

Kazakh government may allocate from budget or loan under guaranties up to $58m for strengthen Aktau. Modernization project includes construction of 2 universal dry-load quay sides, 2 docks for general cargo unload, and oil terminal. The project will cost $100m and it will allow port to enhance transferring capability to 15m tons a year.
