SOCAR Sets Up Well Drilling with Apsheron Rig

Oil&Gas Materials 4 October 2006 14:07 (UTC +04:00)

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) told Trend that the drilling rig Apsheron, which was replaced with a new drilling point in the south part of Western Apsheron has set up drilling of the first well. The new point is located 1,600 meters from the previous one. It is planned to drill 5 new production wells on the new drilling point.

Presently, the drilling in this part of the field is realized through drilling rig Khazar-7. It drills the second well in the field. The project depth of the well equals 820 meters. Generally it is intended to drill 5 wells using this equipment. These wells will be pre-drilling. After completion of the drilling they will be conserved for further production from the platform.

According to SOCAR, open fields are effective for development. It is justified through the issue that they are located away from the coast and communications for oil transportation. At present contouring and assessing the reserves in this part of the field is being carried out. The wells are 800-1,000 meters in depth.

SOCAR intends to install producing platform in the southern part of Western Apsheron. According to the assessment of specialists, approximately 1.5 million tons of recoverable reserves are located in the field.
