Azerbaijan Ready to Offer Its Territory for Transit of Iranian Gas to Georgia Azeri Energy Minister

A Georgian delegation headed by Energy Minister Nika Gilauri visited Azerbaijan. During the talks they interested with the gas supply of the country this year. We had exchange of opinions, but no resolution was taken, Natik Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Minister for Energy and Industry, informed journalists.

Azerbaijan has not defined its energy balance yet, as it depends on several factors. We carry out measures to increases domestic gas production. We should define the volume of gas to be lifted from Shah Deniz. If Turkey refuses from purchase of Azerbaijani gas, it will be left for Azerbaijan. The talks with Russia are also progress. It is an important factor, as we don't at what price we will buy gas from Russia in 2007. Moreover, we conduct talks with Iran. If talks end positively, it will mean another source of gas supply for Azerbaijan, he underscored.

Commenting on possible export of Iranian gas to Georgia by transit via Azerbaijan's territory, the Minister said that the two countries do not agreement in this respect. A representative of Georgia will soon leave for Iran for talks. If there is any agreement Azerbaijan is ready to offer its territory fir transit, the Minister underlined.
