McDermott Caspian Contractors, Inc. (McDermott), a subsidiary of J. Ray McDermott, S.A., was recently awarded a contract by the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) for gas pipeline installation work in the Gunashli field in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea, Trend reports.

Since McDermott's first days in Azerbaijan, the company has developed close ties with SOCAR, and we are proud to be directly chosen by the State Oil Company to perform this work, commented Dan Houser, Vice President and General Manager, Caspian Operations. In the last three years we have successfully completed a number of topside fabrication and pipeline installation projects in Azerbaijan, and this award reflects the Azerbaijan Government's confidence in our proven project management and installation capabilities in the Caspian Sea.

Under the contract, McDermott is responsible for the construction of a 18.4 km of 20 low-pressure gas transport pipeline from the Gunashli Platform DDO-04 to a gas compressing station at the Oily Rocks field. In addition, McDermott will also install 24.5km 20 high-pressure gas pipeline from the Gunashli Platform DDO-14 to a gas collection point at the Oily Rocks field in up to 123 meters of water. McDermott's scope of work also includes spool pieces and riser installations and the pre-commissioning of the pipelines.

A pre-engineering survey for the installation of the gas pipelines has already begun and the pipeline installation is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2007. Both the pipelay barge, Israfil Huseynov (PLBG) and the diving support vessel, Akademik Tofik Ismaylov (DSV) will be used for the pipeline installation.
