50 tons of oil has flown from oil main Baku-Tikhoretsk-Novorossiysk on the Territory of Stavropol Krai (Territory) of Russia. The above-mentioned pipeline-the Northern Route is one of the ways on exporting Azerbaijani oil to international markets. The main reason of the oil flow was an illegal cut-in into the pipeline. Three hectares were contaminated with oil as a result of the accident.
A source in SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) told Trend that the cut-in to the pipeline resulted in an oil flow but had no impact on piping the crude via the route.
In November, 2006, SOCAR shipped 229,376 tons of oil in the Russian Port of Novorossiysk. Over 11 months of 2006, the total volume of SOCAR shipment in Novorossiysk reached 1 mln. 091,8 thousand tons of oil. In 2005, SOCAR shipped 1,631 mln. tons of oil in the Russian Port against 2,559 mln. tons in 2004.
