Additional Energy Capacity Given into Exploitation in Azerbaijan in 2006

Generally more than 500 MVt new electric capacity have been given into exploitation in 2006, the Press-Service of Azerenergy JSC said with reference to the Vice President of the JSC, Marlen Askerov, Trend reports.

This year, four module electric power stations have been constructed in Astara, Sheki, Khachmaz and Nakchivan, each with the capacity of 87 MVt. In addition, five energy blocks have been repaired in Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant which is the biggest station in the Caucasus and provides additional capacity of 160 MVt. The work over the reconstruction of the transmission network have been completed in accordance with the project of the German Bank KfW.

This year, projecting has been fully completed and network construction commenced in the south region, where the foundation of the system substation has been laid in Salyan. In January, Azerenergy intends to give Baku module electric power station with a capacity of 104 MVt into exploitation. In the future, the construction of Sumgait combined-cycle plant with the capacity of 506 MVt will be completed and it will be the biggest combined-cycle plant in the territory of CIS.

Next year, it is planned to commence the construction of one more combined-cycle plant with a capacity of 400 MVt in the electric power station Shimal, module electric power station in Sangachal and reconstruction of the seven blocks in Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant.
