Georgia Receives First Gas from Azerbaijan

Natural gas exports to Georgia from Azerbaijan have began, Trend Correspondent in Georgia reports.

The Georgian Economy Minister, Giorgi Arveladze, stated, after a meeting with the Georgian Government in January 2007, Georgia will receive 31mln cu.m of gas from Azerbaijan.

In accordance with the agreement, Azerbaijan is committed to deliver 90mln cu.m of gas, or 1mln cu.m of gas a day, to Georgia from January to February 2007. The gas prices are set at $120 per 1,000 cu m.

Presently, Russian gas giant, Gazprom is Georgia's only gas supplier. The price of the Russian gas has been fixed at the rate of $235 per 1,000 cubic meters.
