Azerbaijan Increases Oil and Gas Production

In 2006, Azerbaijan produced 32.26mln tons of crude oil which is up 45.3% from the same period last year, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan informed Trend.

In 2006 the state-run sector produced 7.84mln tons of oil down 1.7% from 2005. The share of private sector was 24.43mln tons of oil, 71.5% more than 2005.

In this period the volume of gas production in the country reached 6.76bln cu m, up 18% from the corresponding period of last year.

Some 4.34bln cu m of the total production fell to the state run sector, 13.5% more than 2005. The share of the private sector made up 2.42bln cu m of gas, 26.9% more than 2005.

According to the State Statistics Committee, the increase in oil and gas production volumes has been mainly due to AIOC (Azerbaijan International Operating Company).

During 2006, AIOC produced 23.3mln tons of oil. The Company lifted 4.8bln cu m of gas from the Shah Deniz field.

In this period, Azerbaijan generated 23.92bln KW/hour of electric power. The volume exceeds last year's figures by 6.1%, with 10.5% falling to the hydro electric power stations, and 89.5% on the heat power plants.

In 2006 Azerbaijan produced an additional 522mln KW/h of electricity at the expense of new power generating capacities. Some 121.4mln KW/h of the total production fell to Nakhchivan and Vaykhir hydro-electric power stations and Nakhchivan module power station, 22.3mln KW/h in Shaki, 319.9mln KW/h in Astara and 57.9mln KW/h in Khachmaz.

In 2006, Azerbaijan generated heat energy at the volume of 454,900 HCal, 16.5% more than 2005.
