5th EITI Report Publicized in Azerbaijan

The Commission on Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) has publicized its fifth EITI report on Azerbaijan, which was compiled by the international audit company Deloitte.

The State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan informed Trend that the document covers revenue of the extractive industry over 6 months of 2006.

According to the report, in 2005 the Government received 8.78mln barrels of oil and 1408,371mln cu m of gas from foreign companies operating in the oil and gas sector. At the same time the companies reported they handed in 8.65mln barrels of oil and 1,414,390 cu m of gas. Meanwhile, the audit company confirmed data provided by the Government. The Government's share in gas produced by local companies comprised 3,460mln cu m.

Revenue from foreign companies in the form of profit taxes made up $213,005mln, in signed bonus payments - $1mln, in per acre payments - $1,286mln, in transit payments $7,932mln.

Revenue from foreign companies made up 42,907mln in taxes and royalties, 11,608bln manats in profit taxes, 136,095bln manats in other taxes (incomes tax, excluding taxes from source and social payments).

In general, in the first half of 2006, foreign companies remitted $10,218mln to the Government of Azerbaijan and local 403,625mln manats.

Twenty-four oil and gas companies participate in a memorandum on mutual understating.
