Azerbaijan, Baku /corr Trend I.Khalilova / Heydar Babayev, the Azerbaijani Minister for Economic Development, stated at a news conference on 27 February that the Tarif Council is not considering any proposals to increase the price of diesel fuel and petrol from 1 March.

"These rumors have been spread by those who are interested in causing unrest in the community," he noted.

Proposals have been prohibited from state-run enterprises who have requested additional diesel fuel and petrol price increases.

"If similar proposals were received, the Tariff Council would have regarded them as groundless. The current tariff of energy resources is economically sound and will remain so for a definite period. Though the Council is a collegial body, I as the Chairman assure you that no increase is planned in March," the Minister assured.

Proposals by the Education Ministry to increase education fees at the universities are also under the consideration of the Tariff Council. They have been under study for almost 4 months. "If similar proposals are submitted by the state universities, we will consider the case, but there is no resolution to increase the fees, the Azerbaijani Minister stated.
