Azerbaijan to Hold Negotiations on Electricity with Russia

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend A.Aliyev / The Vice President of Azerenergy JSC, Marlen Askerov, stated on 12 March that the JSC intends to hold negotiations with Russia regarding its tariffs for electricity supplied to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan intends to raise the subject of reducing the prices for the electricity imported to Azerbaijan and for electricity prices exported from Azerbaijan to Russia to remain unchanged.

The present agreement on electricity delivery has been intended for the full year of 2007. However, the tariffs were adopted only for the first quarter. The import of electricity from Russia to Azerbaijan in the first quarter will be on par with the tariffs applied in 2006, namely 3,636 cent per 1 kVt/h. The cost of the Azerbaijani electricity for Russia has increased from 1.58 cent to 1.8 cent for 1 kVt/h.

During the electricity shortage period in Azerbaijan, Russia will deliver electricity to Azerbaijan, at a capacity of 200-250 mVt.
