Azerbaijan May Not Require Statoil’s Services to sell Gas - Azerbaijani Energy Ministry

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Aliyev / Natik Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Minister for Industry

Presently, Statoil is a commercial operator of the Stage 1 Shah Deniz project and heads Azerbaijan Gas Supply Company. The technical operator of the Shah Deniz project is BP.

"Statoil has a wealth of experience in the sale of gas to Europe. Azerbaijan at presently does not have such experience on the Shah Deniz contract. However, we do not rule out that within the second phase of the project, we could sell gas to the world market independently," Aliyev stressed.

Azerbaijan is currently supplying Shah Deniz gas to Georgia. In the near future gas will be transported to Turkey. Fuel is delivered via the South-Caucasus gas pipeline.
