Independent Power Plants to be Built in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Khalilova / The Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan signed Memorandum of Understanding with Korean KEPKO and STX companies on construction of Independent Power Plant in Azerbaijan, a source at the Ministry informed. A number of foreign companies have been invited to prepare the feasibility study for the project.

In addition, negotiations are held with British International Power and Dion Overseas. "We try to, by getting familiarized with the works of several foreign companies, to select more available variant for Azerbaijan. Therefore, in addition to KEPKO/STX, it is planned to attract other companies in preparing feasibility study," stated by the Ministry.

Azerbaijan plans to build two independent power plants with a capacity of 1000 MWt. Presently several variants of places are considered for the plants. They are planned to be constructed in Baku and Ganja or both in Baku.
