Trade Union Established in Azerbaijani Onshore Oil Production Company

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Babayeva / A trade union has been established at the Surakhani Oil operation company, the head of the Republican Committee of Trade Unions of Oil and Gas Industry Workers, Jahangir Aliyev, has reported.

Surakhani Oil is engaged in the development of Surakhany onshore oil and gas field. According to Aliyev, the Republican Committee is taking an active part to increase the number of trade union committees in Azerbaijani oil companies.

The head of the organization has said that the committee is the tenth established after the strike by the workers of the McDermott and Bosshelf companies. Trade unions are functioning in McDermott, Bosshelf, PCH Offshore, Shirvan Oil, Salyan Oil, Azgerneft, Anshad Petrol, Lukoil Azerbaijan and other companies.

Aliyev said that analogue committees would be established in another two companies by the end of the year.

The contract on the development of the Surakhany onshore field was signed on 16 August, 2005. The parties to the project are Rafi Oil (70%) and SOCAR (25%).

The Surakhany field was discovered in 1904. Oil was produced through a flowing well with a debit of 35 tons of oil every 24 hours. Some 114.5mln of oil and over 10bln cu m of gas has been produced in the field so far.

The remaining mineable reserves in the field make up 6.8mln tons of oil. Potential mineable reserves comprise 94%.
