Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend I.Khaliova / A summit of G8 held in Heiligendamm adopted a document on the Reasonability and Development on World Economy, according to the State oil Company of Azerbaijan. The section of the document "Responsibility for mineral reserves and stable development' was included in a statement on the application of the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI).
"To strengthen this initiative we undertake a responsibility to continue assisting through financial, technical and political means. We call on all interested ideas to assist in the application of EITI,' the statement stresses. The document notes the necessity of developing methodology for the application of the initiative in different countries.
The adoption of this document at a summit of G8 testifies that the EITI, where Azerbaijan takes a leading role, has become a global standard in the fight against corruption. Within the framework of EITI Azerbaijan has developed five reports. " Azerbaijan, which is one of the first countries that applied the EITI, undertook the responsibility to become the first in the process of its estimation," the SOCAR announced.
Within the framework of the EITI this year it is planned to adopt one more prestigious international document. The Fall session of the UN General Assembly is expected to adopt a resolution supporting the EITI.
