Shah Deniz Field Reserves Likely to Increase Dramatically: Azerbaijan’s Representatives to NATO (video)
Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Aliyev / Colloquium of NATO/Euroatlantic Partnership Council on energy security began in Baku on 10 July. It was initiated by Azerbaijan and is held within the framework of the NATO's Week. The meeting was recommended to discuss the energy security within the framework of NATO/Euroatlantic which extended from the action plan on individual partnership between Azerbaijan and NATO.
Azerbaijan's representative to NATO, Kamil Khasiyev, noted that all issues involving energy security will be discussed at the meeting. "Holding of events in Baku again proves Azerbaijan's importance in energy both for Europe and for the region," he said.
During his speech Khasiyev noted that after the estimation work had been carried out in gas and the condensate field of Shah Deniz, the volumes of the proved gas reserves in the field increased to 1.2 trln c u m. In future the reserves could achieve 2trln cu m, he noted.
Gas from Shah Deniz is exported through the South-Caucasus pipeline to Georgia and Turkey. Gas is also pumped to Azerbaijan.
During the course of the colloquium the threats and risks for the energy infrastructure which are of major importance, regional and international aspects of energy security, technological innovations on provision of security, financial estimation of security, role of NATO/Euroatlantic and the Partnership for Peace will be discussed.
Representatives from 25 countries are in attendance.
