SOCAR to Increase Azerbaijani Gas Refinery Plant Load

Oil&Gas Materials 20 July 2007 17:31 (UTC +04:00)

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Aliyev / The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) intends to conclude the construction of the new gas pipeline for gas delivery to the Azerbaijani gas refinery plant by the end of the year.

The pipeline will most likely be laid from the Oil Rock offshore field to the AGRP. The gas pipeline is needed to carry SOCAR's increase of gas supplies to the plant for refinery. The existing line is insufficient for transporting the necessary volume of gas to the plant," the same source added.

The first part of the Azerbaijani gas-processing plant was put to use in 1961. Besides six gas-processing facilities, condensate-processing facilities were constructed (with a capacity of 675,000t per year) and facilities on fractionating of unstable petrol (600,000t per year). The plant's technology enables production of liquefied gas, kerosene fraction (re-agent for gas-processing facilities), heavy condensate (for oil-refining plants) and gas petrol (for the Sumgayit petrochemical complex).

Previously, the Azerbaijani gas-processing plant received gas and condensate from the Garadag field. Later casing-head gas and natural gas was pumped from Azerbaijani off-shore fields.

The plant is designed to refine 6.5bln cu m of gas and 650,000t of condensate a year and its real capacity is 5.4bln cu m of gas. The major product of the AGRP is dry gas, gasoline, technical butane, and heavy condensate.
