BP to Temporarily Suspend Production of High-Gravity Oil in Azeri Field

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Aliyev / The Azerbaijani International Operating Company (AIOC) will suspend the production of high-gravity oil in the Azeri field in September in order to set up equipment intended to increase the pumping of formation water and gas in the Central Asia platform, according to ВР Azerbaijan (operator of AIOC).

Work is planned to be completed within ten days. The equipment is intended to increase gas pumping to layers, and the equipment intended for utilization of formation waters will be established during the work at the platform. The formation water produced after oil processing will be delivered to the platform via the new pipeline and re-pumped into the layers. At present oil production in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field exceeds 700,000 barrels per 24 hours.

The parties to the agreement on the production sharing agreement of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field are BP (operator- 34.1%), Chevron (10.2%), SOCAR (10%), INPEX (10%), Statoil (8.6%), ExxonMobil (8%), TPAO (6.8%), Devon (5.6%), ITOCHU (3.9%) and Hess (2.7%).
