The Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) has summarized its activities in 2018, Trend reports referring to the Kazakh media.

"The total trading volume at KASE in 2018 amounted to 127.8 trillion tenge, which is a decrease of 15.6 percent or 23.7 trillion tenge compared to 2017," KASE informed.

The volume of trading in the foreign exchange market in 2018 reached 13.4 trillion tenge, which is higher by 9.1 percent or 1.1 trillion tenge compared to 2017.

It should be noted that the effect of anti-Russia sanctions had a significant impact on the rate of tenge against the US dollar.

"The first sanction hit the market in April and the second one in August 2018. In both cases, tenge followed the Russian ruble and significantly weakened against the US dollar," KASE informed.

In 2018, tenge weakened 15.6 percent against the US dollar, by over 7 percent against euro, and by more than 8 percent against yuan. Also, the Kazakh national currency strengthened by 4.3 percent against the Russian ruble.
