Kazakhstan increases funding for microcredit program

In 2018, funding for the microcredit program in Kazakhstan was increased by 20 billion tenge, Trend reports referring to the Kazakh media.

"Financing for microcredit in cities was increased by 6 billion tenge, and in villages by 14 billion tenge. Taking into account the additionally allocated funds, the total amount for microcredit reached 62 billion tenge," the Kazakh Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Madina Abylkasymova said at a government meeting.

As many as 9,772 microcredits (70 percent) were granted to support startup projects, 1,024 microcredits (7 percent) to develop anchor cooperation, and 3,257 (23 percent) microcredits were granted to expand entrepreneurs’ own businesses.

"As part of the microcredit program, 13,367 self-employed and 1,686 unemployed were able to do business, as well as to formalize their activities," Abylkasymova added.

At the same time, microcredits are in demand among young people. Last year, 2,048 young people engaged in entrepreneurship, including 1,008 people who received microcredits for startup projects.
