Some 74.7 million transactions worth a total of 845.6 trillion soums were conducted in 2018 through the interbank payment system of Uzbek Central Bank, which is 32 percent more compared to 2017 (640.8 trillion), Trend reports citing Central Bank.

The average daily number of transactions through the system amounted to 272,500 with the amount of 3.1 trillion soums.

Payments for 10.2 trillion soums were received last year through the clearing system of retail payments of the Central Bank, designed for round-the-clock acceptance of payments from the population, which is two times more than in 2017 (5.2 trillion soums).

Central Bank noted that as of January 1, 2019, 17.6 million bank plastic cards were issued and serviced in the country (on January 1, 2018, 19.2 million cards). The decrease in the number of cards in use is associated with the closure of the DUET plastic card system (offline cards).

At the beginning of January, 244,900 payment terminals operated in Uzbekistan, which is 3.9 percent more than on January 1, 2018 (235.7 thousand). Moreover, the number of ATMs and infokiosks increased by 21.8 percent to 6,500 compared with January 1, 2018 (5,632).

The review also states that the national payment system Humo, which will be integrated with international payment systems, is planned to be launched this year.
