The embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tbilisi plays an important role in deepening economic cooperation between the two countries, said Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava, Trend reports with reference to the ministry.
She made these remarks at a meeting with Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Georgia Abdullah Al-Mutairi.
The parties discussed the current state of trade and economic relations between the two countries and prospects for their development. It was stressed that the opening of the embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tbilisi in 2018 became an important incentive for deepening economic cooperation in various spheres including trade, investments, tourism and transport.
The ambassador said that Saudi Arabia is interested in imports of agricultural products from Georgia.
The sides also noted a positive trend of increasing the number of tourists from Saudi Arabia in Georgia. In January-June 2019, the number of tourists from this country increased by 68 percent compared to the same period of 2018. The growth became possible due to increased number of direct flights between two Georgia and Saudi Arabia, which have reached 11 flights a week.
At the meeting, Turnava expressed the hope that the representatives of Saudi Arabia would participate in the 2019 Silk Road Forum in Tbilisi.
