Green Climate Fund to support Georgia with development of forests

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) will provide a grant of $32 million to support the development of forests in Georgia, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

Georgian Minister of Environment and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili met with a delegation of the Green Climate Fund. The Fund delegation is on an official week-long visit to Georgia.

The meeting discussed issues of deepening cooperation between the Green Climate Fund and Georgia and the possibility of facilitating access to the financial resources of the Fund.

The meeting was attended by First Deputy Minister Giorgi Khanishvili, Deputy Ministers Nino Tandilashvili, Khatia Tsilosani and heads of relevant departments of the ministry.

The minister of environment and agriculture thanked the representatives of the Fund for effective cooperation. Davitashvili spoke about the need to mitigate the effects of climate change in the country, as well as the importance of environmental projects. Discussions also focused on the problem of possible irrigation systems in the country.

According to the representatives of the Green Climate Fund, Georgia is one of the leading countries in the Eastern European region with clearly defined priorities that are important for strategic cooperation. The Green Climate Fund supports Georgia in overcoming the challenges of climate change.
