From January to August 2019, the total volume of government securities transactions on the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE) amounted to 9.315 billion manat, and their number reached 1,604 transactions, Trend reports referring to the exchange.
In the same period of 2018, the volume of operations on government securities amounted to 9.641 billion manat. As a result, the total volume of transactions in the first nine months of 2019 decreased by 3.4 percent.
From January to August 2019, 1,184 transactions (74 percent of the total) in the amount of 8.667 billion manat were made in the primary market, which is 8.5 percent less compared to January-August 2018. Of these, about 77 percent of transactions (907) were made on short-term notes of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) in the total amount of 8.14 billion manat, which is 7.7 percent less compared to the same period last year.
Moreover, 420 transactions in the total volume of 648.316 million manat fell on the secondary market of government securities. The share in the total volume was 6 percent, while the share in the total number of transactions on government securities amounted to 26 percent.
REPO transactions on government securities amounted to 490.375 million manat, which indicates an increase of 45 percent. In total, from January to August, 364 REPO transactions were conducted at the BSE. This is 118 transactions more compared to the first eight months of the previous year.
