Average monthly salary increases by more than 20% in Azerbaijan

As a result of an increase in the amount of salaries and the acceleration of the processes in the private sector, the average monthly nominal salary in Azerbaijan in September 2019 reached 723.4 manat ($425.5), which is 35.8 percent more than in September 2018 and 21.6 percent more than in August, Trend reports referring to the data of the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

“In general, the average monthly nominal salary increased by 11.7 percent and amounted to 603.5 manat ($355) from January through September 2019 compared to the same period of 2018,: said the report.

As of October 1, 2019, the number of hired employees in the country's economy increased by 5.6 percent and reached over 1.6 million people compared to October 1, 2018; 909,500 people were employed in the public sector, while 729,600 people worked in the private sector.

In total, 20.2 percent of hired employees in the country are involved in education, 17.8 percent in trade, 13.3 percent in industry, 8.2 percent in healthcare and social welfare, 7.6 percent in construction, 6.9 percent - state administration and defense; 4.6 percent - transport and warehousing, 3.4 percent - professional, scientific and technical activity, 3.3 percent - agriculture, forestry and fishery, 1.7 percent - financial and insurance activity, 13 percent - in other spheres of economy.

As a result of the comprehensive social reforms carried out upon the Azerbaijani president’s relevant decrees, the minimum amount of salary in the country increased by 250 manat ($147) since September 1. The salaries of civil servants, employees of several budgetary institutions, enterprises and organizations, state oil companies have significantly increased.
