Price increase for non-food products in Uzbekistan insignificant

In November 2019, growth in the average level of consumer prices for the month amounted to 1.7 percent, Trend reports citing Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Committee.

In general, since the beginning of the year, goods and services in the consumer market have become 13.3 percent more expensive. Compared to November 2018, the average price level in the country's consumer sector increased by 15.6 percent.

Over the month, prices for food products rose by 3 percent, while for non-food products - by 0.8 percent, and services - 0.6 percent.

In November 2019, among the main groups of non-food products in Uzbekistan, prices for jewelry (1.8 percent), building materials (1.4 percent), clothing (1.3 percent), shoes and household textiles (1,2 percent), books, newspapers and magazines (1 percent), personal hygiene products, carpets and rugs (0.8 percent) increased more significantly.

Since the beginning of the year, prices for books, newspapers and magazines (21.9 percent), fuel for cars (21 percent), jewelry (15.9 percent), and detergents and cleaners (14.6 percent) increased more than for other goods.

Basic household goods and electrical appliances became more expensive during this period by 12.9 percent, tobacco products - 12.7 percent, cultural goods - 12.4 percent, communications - 11.8 percent, personal hygiene products - 11.6 percent.

With an average increase in tariffs for services in November by 0.6 percent, passenger transport services (1.7 percent), consumer goods (1.1 percent), cultural institutions (1 percent) rose in price above this value. The growth of tariffs for other groups of services for the month did not exceed the average group value, and the cost of services of preschool educational institutions and in the sports sector remained at the level of the previous month.

Compared to the end of last year, the most notable growth in November was registered for education services (21.6 percent), preschool educational institutions funded from the state budget (20.5 percent), housing and communal services (17.8 percent), household services (17.6 percent), recreation (13.1 percent) and sports (12.7 percent). Passenger transport services became more expensive during this period by 12.5 percent, medical services - by 11.1 percent, cultural institutions - by 7.3 percent, communications - by 5.2 percent.

According to official statistics, from January through November 2019, in the food sector, eggs (23.2 percent), bread products (22.8 percent), meat, poultry and fish (22.4 percent), as well as public nutrition (21.2 percent) rose most significantly.
