Uzbekistan to not impose customs duties on imported electric cars

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 12

By Fakhri Vakilov-Trend:

Uzbekistan will not impose custom duties on the import of electric vehicles, as follows from the decree of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev "On measures to further improve the system of managing the road industry", Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

The decree considers marketable products with code 870380m which are defined as "vehicles driven only by an electric motor."

The innovation applies not only to electric cars, but also to electric buses, trucks and motorcycles.

Since the beginning of the year, import of electric vehicles has not been subject to customs duties, and since the summer, excise taxes. However, in the autumn 2019, a presidential decree was issued, according to which from January 1, 2020, all electric vehicles imported from abroad should be subject to a duty of 10 percent.

Now, no customs duty and no excise tax need be paid. It is enough to pay a fee and VAT.

Moreover, the law "On the State Budget of Uzbekistan for 2020" abolishes the excise tax on cars of domestic production.

In 2019, the excise tax on these cars is 3 percent, while in 2018 it was 5 percent and in 2017 - 29 percent.
