Azerbaijan sees tenfold increase in mortgage securities transactions

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 6

The total volume of operations on corporate securities on the Baku Stock Exchange amounted to 396.9 million manat ($233.4 million) in January 2020, Trend reports with reference to the exchange.

At the same time, the volume of transactions in corporate securities amounted to 50.1 million manat ($29.4 million) in January 2019. As a result, the total volume of transactions increased by almost eight times on an annualized basis in the first month.

Meanwhile, all the operations were performed on the secondary market, where 183 transactions were carried out on stock trading totaling 143,000 manat (over $84,117), which is 6.5 times more than in January 2019. Mortgage bonds accounted for 17 transactions totaling 392.3 million manat ($230.7 million), which makes 98.8 percent of the total volume of transactions in corporate bonds. The volume of transactions in mortgage bonds grew 9.7 times.

The amount of REPOs on corporate securities amounted to over 4.7 million manat ($2.8 million). In total, five REPO transactions on corporate securities were conducted on the Baku Stock Exchange in January.
