Payment card turnover increases in Azerbaijan

The payment card turnover through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan amounted to 1,89 billion manat ($1,1 billion) in January 2020, which is 31 percent more than in January 2019, Trend reports referring to the Azerbaijani Central Bank (CBA).

According to the CBA report, total number of transactions with payment cards amounted to 15.5 million transactions (an increase of 46.4 percent) worth 1,89 billion manat ($1,1 billion) for the reporting period.

Some 1,8 million transactions worth 143 million manat ($84.3 million) were carried out outside the country.

The number of transactions with debit cards (both domestically and abroad) amounted to 13,2 million transactions worth 1,7 billion manat ($1 billion), of which 5,7 million transactions worth 1,2 billion manat ($707 million) were carried out using ATMs in Azerbaijan, and 2,05 million operations worth 146,000 manat ($86,059 ) via POS terminals.

In January 2020, bank customers carried out 2.3 million transactions worth 160 million manat ($94 million) via credit cards (both domestically and abroad). Moreover, 290,000 operations worth 44 million manat ($25 million) were carried out using ATMs within the country, and 993,000 operations worth 54 million manat ($31 million) were carried out using POS terminals in the country.
