Share of transactions with state securities down in Azerbaijan

The total volume of transactions in state securities on the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE) amounted to 450.2 billion manat ($264.8 billion) while the number of transactions was 183 from January through February 2020, Trend reports on March 6 referring to the BSE’s data.

At the same time, the volume of transactions in state securities amounted to 2.6 billion manat ($1.5 billion) from January through February 2019. As a result, the total volume of operations carried out from January through February 2020 decreased by 5.7 percent year on year.

Among the conducted transactions, 104 transactions (74 percent of the total volume) worth 351.3 billion manat ($206.6 billion) were conducted in the primary market, which is seven times less than from January through February 2019. Forty-seven transactions of that volume were conducted with short-term notes of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) worth 255 million manat ($150 million) that’s a decrease of 9.5 percent.

Seventy-nine operations totaling 98.8 million manat ($58.1 million) accounted for the secondary market of state securities, which is 21.5 percent less than in the same period of 2019. The share reached 22 percent of the total amount and 76 percent of the total number of transactions in state securities.

REPO transactions on state securities amounted to 241.2 million manat ($141.9 million) showing an increase of 3.8 times. In total, 134 repo transactions were carried out at BSE from January through February 2020, which is 84 repo transactions more than during the first two months of 2019.
