Uzbekistan records price hike for vegetables

Food products' prices and tariffs increased by 3.3 percent in Uzbekistan during April 2020 compared to April 2019, Trend reports citing the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

Prices for eggs rose by 8.1 percent; fruit and vegetables - by 6.6 percent; bread - by 4.3 percent; dairy products - by 2.5 percent; meat, poultry and fish by two percent; butter by 1.8 percent; sugar and tea by 1.6 percent; and alcoholic and soft drinks by 0.9 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively.

Public catering has become more expensive by 1.6 percent for a month, and by 4.1 percent since the beginning of the year.

In April 2020, among the main groups of non-food products, the most significant increase (compared to April 2019) in prices was recorded for medicines (3.9 percent), as well as detergents and cleansers (2.1 percent).

Print products continue to hold the lead in price increase compared to the beginning of 2020 (12 percent), followed by private transport (7.2 percent), medicines (5.6 percent) and tobacco products (4.5 percent).

Car fuel (20.8 percent), jewelry (17.7 percent), and books, newspapers and magazines (16.3 percent) rose the most in annual terms.

In general, in the period from January through April, the most significant increase in service prices was recorded for services on recreation (5.6 percent), household (3.7 percent) and education (3.4 percent).

In the period from January through April, prices and tariffs in the consumer market increased by an average of 4.5 percent. The increase in the average level of consumer prices and tariffs for April 2020, was 1.7 percent.
