Turkmenistan’s credit agencies have started introducing proximity cards, Trend reports with reference to The Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
Proximity cards are contactless smart cards which can be used without a reader device, as other magnetic stripe cards such as credit cards and contact type smart cards. The proximity cards are part of the contactless card technologies.
One of the distinctive features of a proximity card is its capability to make payments using QR-code technology. A special QR code, which is a quick response code, should be scanned to make a payment.
This technology is used in Rysgal and Senagat Joint-Stock commercial banks of Turkmenistan, as well as in Visa and MasterCard international bank cards of the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The introduction of innovative technologies to the banking system is carried out within the framework of the program of development of economic, financial and banking system of Turkmenistan from 2019 through 2025 and the concept of development of digital economy in Turkmenistan from 2019 through 2025.
