Liabilities of Kazakh banks grow as customers deposits increase

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 20

Liabilities of Kazakhstan’s second tier banks amounted to 24.9 trillion tenge ($59.3 billion) as of Apr. 1, 2020, which is 7.6 percent more than as of the beginning of 2020 (23.1 billion tenge or $55.1 billion), Trend reports with reference to the data of Kazakhstan’s National Bank.

The largest share of total liabilities of second-tier banks is customer deposits which account for 76.9 percent.

The liabilities of second-tier banks of Kazakhstan before non-residents of Kazakhstan amounted to 1.2 trillion tenge ($3.02 billion) or 5 percent of total liabilities.

Customer deposits amount to 19.1 trillion tenge ($46.1 billion) or 76.9 percent of total liabilities (17.9 trillion tenge ($43.3 billion) or 77.6 percent of total liabilities as of the beginning of 2020), an increase from the beginning of 2020 is 6.6 percent.

Deposits of legal entities amounted to 9.2 trillion tenge ($22.3 billion) or 48.3 percent of customer deposits (8.6 trillion tenge ($20.8 billion) or 48.2 percent of customer deposits as of the beginning of 2020), an increase from the beginning of 2020 is 6.9 percent.

The share of legal entities deposits in foreign currency increased from 43 percent at the beginning of the year to 46.6 percent as of the reporting date.

Deposits of individuals amount to 9.8 trillion tenge ($23.8 billion) or 51.7 percent of customer deposits (9.3 trillion tenge ($22.4 billion) or 51.8 percent of customer deposits), an increase from the beginning of 2020 is 6.3 percent.

The share of physical entities deposits in foreign currency increased from 41.7 percent at the beginning of the year to 47.4 percent at the reporting date.
