Uzbekistan slows down inflation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 1

The monthly increase in average consumer prices and tariffs in Uzbekistan amounted to 0.3 percent in May 2020, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

Without changes fruit and vegetable products prices, this indicator was formed at the level of one percent.

In April, inflation was 1.7 percent, in March - 1.3 percent, in February - 0.6 percent and in January - 0.8 percent, the committee said.

Prices and tariffs in the consumer market increased by an average of 4.8 percent in the period from January through May 2020.

During the pandemic, the State Statistics Committee applied the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund developed to calculate the index and used other documents prepared by Eurostat, the UN Economic Commission for Europe, the World Bank and the International Labor Organization.

The Central Bank's basic inflation forecast for the end of 2020 has been revised downward from 12-13.5 percent to 11-12.5 percent.
