Bank of Georgia takes new initiative to develop wine sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 7

Bank of Georgia continues to encourage the country's business to support winemaking, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

With the support of the Bank of Georgia and the Georgian company Vivi Ltd, a new vineyard was planted on 85 hectares in Kakheti, Gurjaani, Telavi and Alaverdi regions. Kisi, Kakhetian Green, Saperavi are among wine varieties to be produced at the vineyard. The bank has provided 4.6 million lari ($1.5 million) for the project implementation.

The company expects to receive up to 8 tons of grapes next year. In total, Vivi Ltd owns 125 hectares of vineyards employs about 150 people during the seasonal work.

Next year, the company plans to build a wine factory.

"We are glad that an additional 85 hectares are added to the vineyards of Vivi Ltd. This will enable them to enlarge their production and create new workplaces. We are always ready to take initiatives that are aimed at business development and economic prosperity. We wish success to the company and ourselves in facilitating the development of the wine sector," said Head of Corporate Banking of Bank of Georgia Zurab Kokosadze.
