Average monthly salary grows in Azerbaijan

As a result of increasing salaries and accelerating the development of the private business sector, the average monthly nominal salary in Azerbaijan reached 728.9 manat ($428.8) from January through May 2020, Trend reports on July 9 referring to the data of the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

The average monthly nominal salary of the reporting period was by 24.9 percent more than during the same period of 2019.

As of June 1, 2020, the number of hired employees in the country's economy increased by 5.7 percent compared to the same period of 2019 and reached 1.7 million people; 930,000 of them were employed in the public sector while 751,700 - in the private sector.

Some 19.8 percent of hired workers in the country are involved in education sector, 17.9 percent - in trade sector, 12.8 percent - in industry, 8 percent - in health and social welfare sector, 7.8 percent - in construction, 6.7 percent - public administration and defense; 4.5 percent - transport and warehousing, 3.4 percent - professional, scientific and technical activity, 3.4 percent - agriculture, forestry and fisheries, 1.7 percent - financial and insurance activity, 14 percent - in other spheres of the economy.

As a result of comprehensive social reforms carried out upon the relevant decrees of the Azerbaijani president, the minimum salary in the country increased up to 250 manat ($147), which greatly increased the salaries of civil servants, employees of several budgetary institutions, enterprises and organizations and the state oil company.
