Money transfers to Georgia up in June 2020

Georgia received $169.2 million from abroad in June 2020, which is 17.8 percent ($25.6 million) more than the amount transferred in June 2019, Trend reports referring to National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

Some 94.5 percent of the total money transfers from abroad came from 18 largest partner countries, with the volume of transfers from these countries each exceeding $1 million.

As reported, Italy, Russia and the US were the largest remittance senders in Georgia. In June 2020, Georgia received $32.57 million from Russia, $26.79 million from Italy, and $20.04 million from the US.

The other countries regularly sending money transfers to Georgia in June 2020 included Greece – $19.89 million, Germany – $6.58 million, Spain - $4.48 million, France – $2.49 million, Poland – $2.38 million, UK - $1.71 million, Cyprus - $1.28 million, Ireland - $1.26 million, Israel – $13.87 million, Turkey – $10.88 million, Ukraine – $6.52 million, Azerbaijan – $4.73 million, Canada - $1.88 million, and Kazakhstan - $1.53 million.

In June 2020, remittances from Georgia totaled $21.9 million, which is a 24.4-percent increase year-on-year.
